Learning an Instrument as an Adult: It’s Never Too Late
Convinced you’ve left it too late? Adults are some of our most rewarding students. Here’s the honest truth about learning music later in life.

Frequently asked questions
Am I too old to start music lessons?
Not at all. There is no age limit on learning an instrument. Many of our students are adults, from complete beginners to people returning after decades. With one-to-one lessons and the right teacher, adults make excellent, fast progress.
How long will it take an adult to learn an instrument?
Most adults are playing simple pieces within a few weeks and enjoying real repertoire within a few months. Because grown-ups practise with focus and understand musical concepts quickly, progress is often faster than expected.
Do I need any experience or my own instrument?
No experience is needed, as we teach from the very first note. For early lessons you rarely need your own instrument; your teacher will advise when and what to buy so you don’t overspend before you’re sure.
I learned as a child but stopped. Can I pick it back up?
Yes, and it’s easier than starting from scratch. Skills you built years ago return quickly. A teacher will assess where you are and rebuild your confidence and technique from there.
