We are honoured to receive a message of support from Michael League, one of the most influential musicians of his generation. A five-time Grammy Award winner, bassist, composer and producer, he is the founder and bandleader of Snarky Puppy, the American collective that has sold out concert halls on every continent since 2004 and won Grammys for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album four times, for Sylva, Culcha Vulcha, Live at the Royal Albert Hall and Empire Central, as well as Best R&B Performance alongside Lalah Hathaway.

League is also the founder of the GroundUP Music record label and the annual GroundUP Music Festival in Miami, the leader of the Grammy-nominated group Bokanté, and a producer whose collaborators include David Crosby, Esperanza Spalding, Michael McDonald, Jacob Collier and the Metropole Orkest. His words on music education go to the heart of why Rīgas Privātā Mūzikas Skola was founded.

The importance of music education goes far beyond its practical consequences. Many are quick to cite statistics showing direct correlations between music education and success later in life, as it develops skills necessary for leadership positions, problem solving, and creative/adaptive environments. But it is also important to remember that learning the art of music is important in itself. It provides a direct route to the deepest parts of ourselves, the emotions that bear no name. It enriches our lives and makes them worth living, and it should be protected at all costs. Wishing you the best of luck with your new venture.
